Birthstone for the Month of September is Sapphires
Sapphires are majorly found in South Asian countries like India, Burma and Sri Lanka. In India, sapphires are found in Kashmir and their color is cornflower blue (although kashmir sapphires are now mostly extinct and that's the reason for their high value). Indian stones are regarded as best blue sapphires in the world. In Sri Lanka, sapphires are extremely common and are found in light blue color. Yellow and pink sapphires are also found in Sri Lanka. A variety of dark blue sapphire is also found in Australia and Thailand, but these are not considered as of high quality.
These days, the color of sapphire gems is enhanced by artificial heating. Heating enriches the gem’s color and improves its clarity. These stones have had a lot of significance in past civilizations. Mystical Jews thought that these gemstones are a secret message sent from somewhere beyond. Persians thought that earth is standing on a huge sapphire. In Europe, sapphires were considered to be the treatment of poisons.
