I love
Aquamarines, their Energy, their color and luster - March Birthstone
Aquamarines somehow have always
appealed to me..... the perfect blue (sometimes referred to as Santa Maria Blue) is truly the
most sought after aquamarine in the world. The Aquamarine color resembles the ocean that's where it got its name (In latin
Aqua means Sea and Marine means water).
Aquamarine is considered the
birthstone for month of March and used very often in Jewelry. Loose unmounted
aquamarines look stunning in gold jewelry - be it rings, pendants or
bracelets.
Its interesting to note that
Aquas (short for Aquamarine in the trade) belong to
the "Beryl Family" which is the same as Emerald. Although its
slightly harder than Emerald as far as the Mohs scale is concerned. Its safe to
call aquamarine a "Blue Beryl" also.
| The best aquamarines are found in Brazil although they are mined in Nigeria, Australia, Madagascar, Myanmar and Kenya as well. |
Interesting Facts about
Aquamarines:
a) Aquamarine has been used as a healing stone on several occasions in the past and
even used now to cure anxiety, stress and to give the wearer strength and
ensure well-being. In the past although it was considered as a treasure and
used to ensure safe journey for sailors/captains and on a ship and legend says
that aquamarine used to be protection
against black magic and evil
eye.
b) In 2006, a movie starring Sara Paxton,
Emma Roberts and Joanna Levesque was made with the name "Aquamarine"
because the girls are depicted as Mermaids.
c) As per modern Astrology(including Indian astrology) aquamarine does not
form a part of the NAV GRAHAS (nine planet stones) but in actuality it can do
wonders. Technically speaking Emeralds and Aquamarines are the same stones. A
Emerald Gemstone can be called a "Green Beryl" and Aquamarine a
"Blue Beryl" and both have almost the same properties. Seek an advice
of a astrologer/gemstone consultant if you want to wear it for astrological reasons. It will NOT have negative effects but to reap
the maximum positive effects wearing in the middle finger or index finger can
help in Silver or Solid Gold.
